Web Server and Hosting Upgrades

We’ve recently upgraded our website hosting options and have invested in a new web server to host our client websites.

Web hosting is your website storage - the computer (server) that the world accesses to view your site. It also provides you with your email services if you use an email address @yourdomain.com.

Up to now, many of our websites have been using “shared hosting” which means that your site is shared with many other websites using the resources of the server on a first come first served basis. So if there’s someone else’s site using up all the servers power, your site’s performance would have been reduced.

We’ve now setup our own dedicated server and we’ll be moving all the sites we host to the new server over the coming weeks. This means that we can guarantee an improved hosting service that will minimise poor performance and reduce website downtime.

In addition to a better home for your website, our email and webmail services have been improved with both tough anti-virus and anti-spam software that will be provided as standard.

You probably won’t notice any immediate difference to your website (unless you use webmail) as the transfer to the new server will be seamless. However, you should see that your site generally ‘runs better’ over the next few weeks.

We will have to contact some of our clients prior to switching your site as we will also be implementing a stronger password policy for all our clients’ security. If your password is considered ‘weak’ we will have to change this to something more secure. Panic not however - we will let you know about this before we make any changes so you can continue to receive your email as before without interruption.
